Burrowing Owls
According to Wildlife Preservation Canada, fewer than 1000 pairs of burrowing owls exist in Canada’s prairie grasslands. The burrowing owl is therefore one of Canada’s most endangered birds.
Not so in Ecuador. Those noisy bastards are everywhere. They dig their gopher holes wherever you’re most likely to fall in, and they scream all night long.
The burrowing owls of Ecuador aren’t my favourite species, but they sure are adorable. These photos are of a pair that nested in the lot next to ours.
